The galleries will be a fascinating place to visit over the summer months. There is a major exhibition of the work of the late John Byrne, one of the most exciting Scottish artists to emerge in the second half of the 20th century.

Running almost concurrently is a fantastic show of Glasgow artist Frank McNab’s work, an insight into a netherworld where sprites and elves share space with the grimy mundane of our ordinary lives.

Also in this issue we look ahead to two Open Studios events - one in Ayr and the other on Arran, both taking place in late summer.

There’s a fascinating exbibition of underwater photography at the Maritime Museum in Irvine and we meet an Ayrshire man who is helping to develop Ireland’s next generation of film makers. Happy reading!
